I had a series of private lessons with Ema, focused on meditation. She was wonderful. She really worked on identifying what techniques work well for me. I definitely plan to work with her again.

Question and answer

Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.

A. Private and small group Yoga and Meditation Sessions for health and personal growth, in-depth yoga studies to help people better understand and use all aspects of yoga and meditation, 3-day retreats at the Vivekananda Monastery and Retreat, 1-day retreats and 2-day seminars in Ann Arbor, Saturday workshops and more.

Q. Describe three recent jobs you've completed.

A. Private yoga nidra and meditation sessions for a busy attorney seeking stress relief, but also seeking answers to spiritual questions.

3-Day Retreat at the Vivekananda Monastery and Retreat for beginners through advanced practitioners.

In-Depth Studies: Chakra Workshop

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Weather a beginner or a seasoned practitioner, Customer Beware! Injuries in yoga classes have been on the rise since yoga studios started mass-producing minimally trained "instructors". A lot of fake and purely physical yoga, and sadly no knowledge of what meditation is. Satyananda Style Yoga will educate and nurture your whole person.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. Most "teachers"/instructors are very minimally and poorly trained when "certified" by yoga studios who often have no link to true tradition. Popular yoga culture studios claim to be "accredited by the Yoga Alliance" which is actually not an accreditation institution, but a random membership paid organization. A lot of unethical behavior around!

Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?

A. How long have you practiced yoga/meditation?
Where and who did you study with?
What kind of injuries/health conditions is the yoga you teach contraindicated for?
How are you going to take care of X (a specific health problem) I have?
Will I have to do headstands in class (which are contraindicated for over 70% of the population in the U.S.) and why?
How often do you clean thoroughly the space and what do you use? Do you not use any chemicals/bleach etc.?

Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?

A. Students must register with payment before attending. Bring your questions and concerns, be they health or spiritually related. Please, familiarize yourself with Satyananda Style yoga at our website:
