Introduction: Pickford Performance Horses is now offering equine myofascial release treatments. MFR is an amazingly less invasive alternative to chiropractic, massage, stall rest, and many other procedures that we are doing to all of our horses to offset all of the soreness that we are causing when we work them! Equine MFR is a great option to treat many things, such as old injuries, stiffness, soreness, or a change in attitude or performance. The body (human or equine) is completely held together by a special, high-strength tissue called the fascia. You see the fascia when you look at a steak; it is the white marbling that connects all of the red tissues. Think of this fascia like the skin inside of a grapefruit; there are areas where it holds thick cells together, but inside of those cells are more, smaller cells that are held together by thinner layers of fascia. Everything that your horse does is affected by the fascia; any imbalance in it can cause your horse to be out of sync and can even cause your horse to become out of alignment. This is why when you get them adjusted by a chiropractor, they are better at first, but you have to call the vet back weeks later. The bone was forced back into place by the adjustment, but the fascia was the underlying cause, and for as long as it remains out of balance, it will continue to pull the bones back out of alignment. In Equine Myofascial Release, we use the heat and gentle pressure from our own hands to help the fascia to "unwind". This process can take 2-5 minutes per specific site on the horse, but can occasionally take much longer. This slow process allows for the hands to "sink" in to the entire muscular and even can affect tendons, ligaments, and vital organs. MFR treatment is excellent for horses with: • Back soreness • Tight and/or sore muscles • Girthyness • Old injuries • Problems with leads or poor quality of gaits • Sudden decrease in performance • Change in attitude
