Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?
A. Photography is a VERY expensive business to break into.
Aside from all the paper work and filing your business so it's legit...equipment is very expensive.
Professional DSLR camers start at about $1,000 and only go up from there. Lenses (a must have) start at $100 and go up to as high as $30,000! But most of my lenses are between $100-$1,000, still very professional quality.
Tripods, lighting, backdrops, flashes etc...it all adds up very quickly. While starting my business.. I have pocketed no money..basically all my paid gigs go right back into equipment. But that's fine...I will get there someday!
Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?
A. I have a more modern appeal to my work. It's not so traditional and "posey".
Q. What do you like most about your job?
A. I love working with people and just having fun!! I love coming up with crazy poses and artsy photos!
Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A. How much how much how much? That's all I get asked.
I know times are hard and the economy and gas prices are crazy! But photographers really don't get the appreciation and credibility they deserve. It takes a lot of time, talent and money to be a photographer. And without them you would have no memories or events captured.
Aside from that...I try to make all my prices and packages very affordable but still offer my great talent.
I'm very willing to work out prices and cut back on some things to make it more affordable for everyone. :)
