Survey findings and summary
After a two-month survey of over 6,000 small business owners nationwide, Thumbtack.com has released new data showing that Detroit small businesses owners are frustrated with the city's regulatory regimes and its overall lack of friendliness towards small businesses, and this resulted in low grades across many categories. Despite this, these same business owners described their economic circumstances as only a few spots below the median level for U.S. cities.
Some of the key findings for Detroit include:
- Detroit earned a 'C+' for the friendliness of its tax system towards small businesses and a 'D' for the friendliness of its zoning ordinances.
- Metro Detroit ranks as Michigan's #2 most friendly region for small business.
