Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.

A. - Virus/malware removal
- Hardware upgrades/replacements

I am a very experienced IT professional, and have the ability to do a lot of various tasks. I have a full time salary position in an IT department working as a network administrator, but I also do odd jobs on the side because I love what I do. However this also means that my availability would need to be scheduled as opposed to being something like a 24-48 hour turnaround. I do excellent work and guarantee my work as well.

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. My advice would be to get a second opinion on what is wrong with the PC. There are several technicians in the area that are looking for work, and they will tell you just about anything to get your business. Not a lot of people in the area are very scrupulous, and so you will want to have a couple of people have the exact same diagnosis for you. There are several people out there that will offer a free diagnosis, but I am not one of those however as I do this kind of work on the side and value my "outside of work" time.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. Most every PC problem that comes up is something that an experienced tech has seen before. There are very few surprises left out there anymore, but some do still exist.

Virus removal is actually something that is really easy to do, but many techs give you the impression that it is difficult. Some viruses are difficult to undo, but most viruses are a 15 minute removal process and everything was back to normal.

Hardware devices will fail, and you will want to make sure that your data is backed up. Backups, backups, backups. I cannot preach this enough. Make sure you have a backup solution in place. You won't realize how much you depend on your data until it is all gone and you have to rebuild from scratch.

Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A. How soon can you fix my problem?

Well that really depends on my current schedule with things. Usually I can fix a problem with a computer within a couple of days, but there are times were I actually refuse work because I know it would sit around for a couple of weeks before I'd actually fix the problem. It all depends on how much time I have, and not really dependent on what is wrong with the computer.
