There are few things as fun and rewarding as having a dog in your life. Our goal is to ensure you have a healthy, lifelong bond with yours by providing you the knowledge and skills to create a happy, confident and well-mannered member of your family.

We are a group of dog behaviorists with over 17 years of combined experience, specializing in in-home training programs for dogs of all breeds, temperaments and backgrounds. Our knowledge and experience gives us the ability to read and understand each dog accurately and adjust accordingly; this is what separates the professional behaviorist from the novice trainer.

We pride ourselves on our ability to solve any behavior problem, and teach effective obedience through positive reinforcement training methods, without the use of shock collars, clickers or treats. Our training philosophy demands that owners be given the knowledge to build and maintain leadership, as well as the theories and methods for understanding and correcting current behavior problems, and preventing future ones. We show families how to utilize their dog's natural instincts towards redirecting unwanted behaviors.

With our Dog Training for Life program, we begin with a free in-home evaluation to assess your dog in their natural environment, allowing us to pinpoint the source of any behavior problems. Most behavior problems occur in the home, and obedience needs to be effective there in everyday life, so training you and your dog in your own environment first is essential for success. Once you have success at home, the next step is to teach your dog how to behave outside your home, and work on behavioral problems specific to public settings at our Socializing Groups.

My initial meeting with the trainer was excellent. She was very thorough and informative. She was very timely and accommodating. I was so confident in the service that I am seriously considering upgrading my package. I will definitely recommend Pro K-9 to anyone searching for a dog trainer.

Question and answer

Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?

A. I'm a lifelong dog owner and lover. For several years I've worked in dog rescue by fostering, training and volunteering in various ways. My foster dogs come from all backgrounds and require training and behavior modification to prepare each of them for a successful adoption--which is why I began my career. I now also assist with training rescue dogs and their foster and adopting homes through Better Life Canine Center, and have helped train Psychiatric Service Dogs for military veterans returning home with mental illness through Stiggy's Dogs.

Q. Tell us about a recent job you did that you are particularly proud of.

A. I'm proud of all of my clients and love to watch them reach their training goals, creating that happy, confident and well-mannered member of their family. There are too many to choose from, but a recent success story is of a 5 year old chihuahua (and their other 2 chihuahuas) who is aggressive towards anyone new entering the house. He wanted to bite me repeatedly the entire first hour I was there! The client adopted him and apparently his barking was to much for previous owner to handle--they had him inhumanely devocalized rather than working on what he needed to be a happy, confident dog. The new owner is fully committed to turning him around and it shows. We're still in the process of training, but he has already become an entirely new dog in just a few short weeks and now settles down quickly and even wags his tail when I walk in the house.
