Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A. If you don't feel confortable with a photographer, don't book them. It will show in the pictures and truthfully, if you feel uncomfortable and really don't mesh with the photographer, chances are they feel the same way. That's my biggest piece of advice. Also, if you don't like the particular style that we shoot, don't book us and then try to change the way we shoot to suit the style of photography that you are looking for. Find someone from the get-go whose style you love!
Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?
A. A good camera and professional lenses really DO make a difference! The biggest thing that I wish customers knew about photography is that anyone can buy an expensive camera and call themselves a professional photographer. There is no type of test or licensing required in the industry. Talk to us. Don't be afraid to ask us questions. We do this every day and realize that the whole professional photography thing may be totally new to you!
Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?
A. Well, first off...all professional photography is not the same! Anyone can call themselves a "professional." You want to make sure that you book with a legitimate professional with a proven track record. Things like how long have you been a professional photographer? Do you have insurance? Do you have backup gear? If you cannot make it to the schedule event, do you guarantee a professional photographer at my event? Much of this should be covered in their contract. If they don't have a contract...RUN! Their contract should be there to cover their rights as well as yours in the event of something unexpected.
Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?
A. Well, buyers should have an idea of their budget before seeking me out. Check out my website and see if the prices are in the ballpark of what you are looking to spend on your wedding, family shoot, etc. If we are way off, between what you are looking to spend and what I charge, perhaps we can come up with a custom package that will suit both of us. It never hurts to ask!
It's important to realize that with each package, a disc is given with hi-resolution proofs, which is one reason that my prices may seem higher than some other photographers. There is a value in that disc, and with print rights, you will have the control and option to make your own prints, share images, etc. at no additional cost. I also offer prints, canvas mounted art, albums, save the date cards, etc. if you wish to have those done through J. Lynn Photography.
