I work in Southeastern Michigan, covering everything from weddings to architecture to concerts. I take photos of people, places and moments and enjoy every second of it.
My specialty is in capturing moments. I also prefer people as a subject matter, trying to catch a glimpse of the real person behind a stereotypical "cheese smile".
A. Make sure you feel comfortable with your photographer. Most people feel a little uncomfortable in front of a camera to begin with. Not enjoying your time with your photographer will only make it worse.
A. While money is tight for everyone, the worst thing you can do is go with just the cheapest person. These photos will be with you the rest of your life. You don't have to pay top dollar, but carefully look at their work and make sure you're happy with it.
A. If it's for an event, make sure your photographer has back up equipment and/or people to call on in case they need it.
A. My favorite thing is to capture moments that people don't even realize are happening. My job is to be an observer and document.
A. I got a late start getting into photography. It wasn't until I realized I was skipping my grad school classes to take photos that I figured out maybe I needed to reorganize where my time and energy was going. I put my Master's degree on hold and focused on learning everything I could about taking photos.
