Kristin is excellent. Took her minutes to do a masterful job on me, a black woman whom she had never met. Happy she will be a presenter at my women's conference.

I worked with Kristin for a commercial shoot, and she was very professional. She kept in contact with me to confirm time and location, and she showed up early. I also appreciate that she was very accommodating for the actors we used. She was knowledgeable about lighting and seating. Kristin helped make our film shoot a smooth and enjoyable process, and I intend to work with her again soon.

Question and answer

Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?

A. If someone is seeking makeup to be done for a wedding it is good to know how many people will be getting done. will it just be the bride, or the entire bridal party. If the entire bridal party will be getting makeup, how many people are included? Also are you looking at getting Airbrush make-up or a regular makeup application. This information will determine rates and could even have a discounted group rate.

If someone is hiring me for movie makeup it helps to know if it will be simple natural makeup, or if there will be a lot of special fx makeup involved. Also how many days do they plan on filming, and typically how many hours, will it be a half day or full day of filming. is it for a short film, full length film, commercial, etc.

For fashion related work including photoshoots and fashion shows it helps to know how many models, how many looks are wanted, what the theme/concept is. is it a headshot where there will just be a natural look or is it a more avante garde/extreme look.

Also with any project it sometimes helps to know what your budget is. I do have set rates but am always willing to work within your budget!

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. I have been professionally trained from the "HARVARD" of make-up schools located in Burbank, CA. I was taught under the instruction of professional make-up artist who have had many credits with major motion films, A-list actors and celebrities. It was an intense hands on training program that prepared you for on the job work.
I have a great passion for what I do as a career. I dont consider it a "job" or "work" because it is fun and i look forward to waking up everyday to do a new project whether it be on a movie set, fashion show, photoshoot, or bridal. I love the art in it and I love making people feel good and look beautiful. The best part about my job is seeing the smile on the clients face when they see the ending result!
With my work i am always thinking outside of the box and love trying out new looks and ideas. I love the creativity and doing things that may take you out of the typical comfort zone. Being a make-up artist and beauty advisor is truly my favorite thing to do!

Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?

A. ever since i was little i was always very artistic and loved anything that included art, makeup and fashion! i knew that i either wanted to be a makeup artist or a fashion designer, but once i started learning more about the film and fashion industry i knew that was where i belong! i love doing special fx for film work and i love doing crazy avante garde work for photoshoots and fashion shows! Anything that includes you to step out of the box and your comfort zone makes it so much fun! I love doing bridal work also because it is such an exciting day for the bride and i love excentuating their true beauty!

Q. Do you do any sort of continuing education to stay up on the latest developments in your field?

A. definitely! i am constantly going to continuing education make-up related classes through Aveda. They are always showcasing new products coming out along with new tricks and tips! I am also planning on going back to my previous schooling, Make-Up Designory to take some refresher courses. The one thing about this industry is that you can never stop learning because there are always new trends coming out every season and new products to be used! The great thing about Make-Up Designory is that any class that you have previously taken, you can go back to either the LA or NY campus and re-take them for free, whether just for one day or the entire course!

Q. If you were advising someone who wanted to get into your profession, what would you suggest?

A. If i were to advise someone who wanted to become a make-up artist I would definitely say to do your research. Figure out what it is that you most want to do; film work, fashion, bridal, salon, etc. Do you want to do more beauty work or do you want to do special fx? A cosmetology school is different than a make-up trade school. cosmetology mainly focuses on hair cutting, coloring, etc. If you want to do more makeup i would suggest a school such as Make-Up Designory which has two locations; Los Angeles & New York. This school has been rated as the top make-up school in the country and possibly the world. But definitely check out different schools, read books about make-up, look at youtube videos, and even look into doing an internship with a make-up artist. A lot of MUA's love having inspiring artists help assist them on projects so they can have first hand on set training! And practice practice practice! there are always new tricks to be learned and i'm sure your friends would love for you to practice makeup on them! It is a very fun and exciting career to get into!
