Highly Recommended. I took piano lessons from Marilyn as a returning student to brush up on skills I had learned as a child. She has a professional manner, is a great "cheer leader" for her students, has both an eye and ear for the correct notes. Love the care she takes to match the piece with the ability of the student yet keeps it challenging. Before long I was playing pieces that at first seemed impossible. Now I'm finding many opportunities to use the new skills. Thanks, Marilyn!

Question and answer

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Look for a piano teacher who loves to teach. Your teacher does not need to be a concert pianist or even have advanced degrees as long as he/she is a competetent musician and has a track record of turning out students who can and love to play. Ask for references from satisfied students and call them!

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. First of all I would say the fact that I absolutely love to teach piano to children of all ages (including the kid in all of us). Because of that love, I am patient with my students, at the same time doing my best to challenge and encourage them to develop their musical skills.

Second, my rates are some of the most reasonable around, compared to other experienced teachers. I try to keep my rates low to keep piano lessons accessible to most families.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. Because playing the piano is a skill acquired over time, I enjoy the one-to-one rapport that develops with my students. I enjoy watching the growth in my student's musical abilities that comes with practice and commitment.

Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A. Hmm, let's see - I am often asked "Do I have to have a piano to take piano lessons? The answer to that question is that you definitely need a keyboard instrument of some type on which to practice. It does not have to be an accoustic piano. If you opt for an electronic keyboard, look for one with "touch sensitive" keys. That way you can play loud, soft, or in between by varying the weight with which you strike the keys.

Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?

A. I read a book called "Do What You Love and the Money will Follow." That prompted me to get away from the secretarial desk job and do what I love!
