As a lifelong dog lover, owner and now certified dog trainer, I’m committed to providing quality obedience training with understanding and heart for dogs of many varied histories and backgrounds, so that they may live happy and live useful lives with their owner families.
By using the most compassionate, modern methods and tools available, I help create and develop canine/human relationships for my clients that are lasting, loving and often, profoundly life changing for both dog and owner.
I spend time getting to know each dog and family individually and offer one-on-one in-home training at reasonable prices. My long work history of recruiting and publicity in my “old life” helps me to understand my people clients as well as my canine clients.
I teach all basic obedience skills, with positive reinforcement techniques, mainly to dogs of all ages, breeds and of varied histories and backgrounds. I also problem solve many common problems such as jumping, barking, digging, chewing, shyness, some aggression, etc. Severe aggression cases are always referred to a qualified aggression specialist.
Question and answer
Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A. Make sure you ask any potential trainer what philosphy of training they use. Does the trainer use positive reinforcement methods exclusively or do they employ less desireable techniques that can discourage your dog and change their temperaments forever.
Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?
A. A big inside secret of any dog training is that understanding the people who own the dog is as important as understanding the dog. When you discover what is going on with the owners, you often solve the problems for the dog. Many dog trainers, I've found have great understanding and love for dogs, but very little love or understanding for people, and that is a critical missing piece in a lot of dog training and I offer both. I worked with people for many years in my previous work life and have great insight and understanding into people as well as dogs, and can help in that way more than many other trainers and is unique to my service.
