Kate has been a wonderful trainer and resource to me and my mini dachshund (Louie) for over a year. I first met Kate when I took my brand new puppy into the Humane Society for their puppy socialization class. After seeing how well Kate interacted with the dogs and humans alike I knew we would be continuing on with training, Kate has an amazing way of catching the smallest behaviors that 'make our dogs tick' as well as an uncanny ability to explain that behavior to you without making you feel like you are in school! I continued to take Louie to the Humane Society for training classes and for Pee Wee play (play sessions for dogs 20lbs and under run by Kate) and every visit was fun for Louie and an enjoyable learning experience for me. Since the Humane Society has closed we have been fortunate enough to have Kate stick around and come to do individual training sessions. So far Kate has come by to work on barking and leash training and both sessions went beautifully. I completely trust Kate's methods and appreciate her honesty when it comes to training. She helps you set realistic expectations based on where your dog is at, what you want to accomplish and how much effort you are able/willing to put into it. I have been recommending Kate to everyone I know whether their dog just has one little quirk/bad behavior that drives them nuts or they have a new puppy and need a full blown crash course in training 101. I am proud to say that because of Kate my dog is a Pretty Good Dog! Is yours?

A. Be careful. The dog industry is unregulated meaning anyone can pick an important sounding title or call themselves an expert. Trust your gut - don't do anything or trust anyone asking you to do something you are not comfortable with - especially if it involved something that may be harmful to your dog. Training advice should be logical and reasonable. Lastly, beware of guarantees - you cannot insure a particular outcome when working with dogs and trustworthy individuals will be upfront about this.
A. Training can and should be fun! It should also not make you feel guilty or like a bad person - it should help you feel closer to your dog.
You got a dog because you love them and the idea of living with one sounded great. If living with your dog is not so great, then it's time to talk with a professional.
Dog's don't come with instruction manuals, so while it may seem like everyone is an expert when it comes to dogs - we all have room to continue learning and growing - there is no shame in asking for help!
A. Are your training methods science-based?
What do you do to continue learning (i.e. what are the most recent books/articles you've read about behavior, do you attend conferences/seminars, etc)?
What is your cancellation/refund policy (always good to know exactly how this stuff works, whatever service you are looking for)?
