I am currently accepting students from the Twin Cities and the surrounding Metro areas while also working at Swift School of Music in St. Paul. I am a Minnesota native and I have been playing for over 15 years professionally. I have also been touring, recording, producing and teaching for over 10 years.

I am an experienced teacher with a hands-on approach that will get the student involved and excited to play. I highly recommend that students are diligent in their practice, but lessons are meant to be fun. Music is supposed to be exciting! I am experienced with all age ranges. It is never too early or late to start loving music.

Pricing is flexible and very competitive, which is determined by frequency, travel time, and student material, examples of which are books and picks, etc.

References are available upon request. I graduated from Perpich Arts High school in Golden Valley, MN in 2003 with Music and guitar as my focus. I also finished a degree for Music Production at McNally Smith College of Music in St. Paul and a Bachelors in Music Business from Augsburg.

With 12 years of professional experience in the music business, I am a mentor as well as a teacher. I teach a practical guitar technique, that allows students to begin playing as quickly and as proficiently as possible.

If you are interested, or if you need any information, please contact me anytime or the Swift School of Music in St. Paul.

Want to learn guitar in a casual but constructive environment? Try taking a few lessons from Josh Von Mink. When I first became interested, Josh not only offered his advice but actually helped me pick out an acoustic guitar. He found me a sturdy and capable Cort that didn't set me back too much. Then he encouraged me to learn a few things from him.

When I finally got around to seriously wanting to spend time with my guitar, Josh was willing to show me the ropes. He is all about the student learning at his or her own speed. We played a few songs by artists we both liked so that the lessons were immediately fun. When I asked for more structure, he was happy to outline some chords and notes on paper for "homework." You know there is always more to learn, and Josh is eager to see people want to connect the dots and move on to the next stage.

Most of all, learning from and playing with Josh Von Mink is fun because he has a genuine passion for the guitar and the songwriting that follows from it. He's not afraid to push his students to do a little more than they are capable of, but he's by no means pushy or demanding. He shows off his skill so that you know he's a worthy teacher, but he won't make you feel stupid for not being able to do what he's trying to show. Take advantage of Josh's service and start strumming some tunes!

Question and answer

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. I keep things light and fun yet educational. I play guitar for a living and I love to share my enthusiasm with my students. My teaching style comes with a young and fresh perspective with a healthy dose of experience. Learning should be fun to get the most out of the experience of beginning or refining a hobby.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. What I love most about teaching is that I get to see people progress and learn. This often builds confidence and inspiration and leads to some pretty exciting results when students stick with the program. Also, I get to play guitar with great new people which inspires me in return. I can't imagine doing anything more rewarding.

Q. Do you have a favorite story from your work?

A. I had the opportunity to teach a young man guitar lessons and prepare him for a recital. It turned out that he was performing at my old elementary school where I got to play a song with him and watch him humbly become the most popular kid in his class that day. It was amazing to relive my elementary years while passing on the joys of music and performance to another up and coming artist.
