Polly's House Pet Care is available 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Hello! My name is Debra. I have loved a variety of animals all my life, including cats, dogs, lizards, a large white rat, a hamster, parakeets and cockatiels. I am starting my own dog walking and pet care business, and I would love to help take care of your friend. I am reliable and hard-working. I am meticulous and keep complete records.

By letting me walk your dogs during the day while you are at work, or if you are unable to walk them yourself, you will have a happier, more content dog. This also gives you peace of mind that you are doing all you can to keep your best friend exercised, and make him/her more comfortable. I am also available for unscheduled visits, if you have an emergency.

I offer the following services (prices are found below):

* Dog walking:

I will take your dog(s) for a walk and play with them. I am available for ½ to 1-hour walks, rain, snow or shine. If you prefer, when the weather is poor, I can take your dog(s) out to let them potty and then spend the remaining time playing with them indoors.

Your dog will be walked individually and receive my full attention during our time together. I can also take your dog to the nearest dog park, if you like, as long as you meet the city's licensing requirements.

I will clean up any poo your dog creates while I am with her, and for an additional fee, I will do simple dog care such as brushing and bathing. I do not do grooming.

* In your home vacation care:

I will come over to your home while you are away on business or vacation and take care of your pets. I will feed them and give them fresh water. I will clean cat boxes and change paper in cages. I will administer any necessary medications. I will check for any pet "accidents" and clean them up. If you like, I will leave the TV or radio on for them for part of the day or night (you'd be surprised). Most importantly, I will play with them and give them love and attention.

If you have dogs, I will walk them. I suggest three visits per day for dogs and one visit per day for other pets, but you know your pet best, and I am flexible.

I can also, per your instructions, bring in your mail and papers, open and close curtains, turn lights on and off, water plants, take your trash to the curb and back, and give your home that lived-in look. I can also do phone check-ins with you, to let you know how your pet is doing while you are gone.

* Other pet care:

I will clean cat boxes and bird cages. I will do simple brushing for your cat if s/he allows it! I will care for your reptiles and fish, per your instructions, but I am unable to feed live animals to snakes (nothing wrong with it, snakes have to live too; I'm just squeamish).

My goal is to give you and your pet the service that you need. If you have a unique situation, talk to me. If I can't help you with it, I will be honest and tell you up front. If I am able to refer you to someone who can help you, I will.

Discounts:

New clients get 10% off their first week's service. If you are a senior (65 and over) or disabled, you get a 10% discount.

All Services (there is a half-hour minimum):

$20.00 an hour
$12.00 a half hour
For walking more than one dog, there is an additional $4 an hour per dog.

I am based out of Northeast Minneapolis and am willing to travel any reasonable distance.

Insurance and bonding are pending.

Question and answer

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. I recommend that the customer pay attention to how much information the care provider wants to know about you and your pet. For instance, if they are pet sitting your cat they should be asking where its favorite hiding places are? What is your vet's phone number? What are your pet's favorite toys?
If they are walking your dog they should be asking if your dog has a favorite place to walk? Does she like to run? Does he have arthritis or any other conditions that can affect the walk?

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. It is important to be completely honest about how your pet reacts to other people and animals. This allows me to keep your pet and others safe and comfortable during their time with me.
An inside secret is that animals need to be respected. They need to establish a new relationship in their own way. Some pets are shy and some are happy to meet anyone. Just like people they have their own boundaries and just like people it is polite to wait to be asked inside rather than try and force it.

Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?

A. The customer should be asking what the care provider would do if there was a pet emergency and the customer was unavailable. There should already be a plan in place. The customer should know how committed the provider is to providing reliable care even in inclement weather. If walking a trained dog, the customer should ask if the provider will work on his training as he is being walked.
