Patrick Kelley is a world traveler, a photographer and a naturalist at heart. As an avid diver, camper, climber, biker and hiker, his interests have led him on adventures around the world.

He currently owns and operates Patrick Kelley Worldwide Photography which is based in Kapaa, Hawaii and specializes in travel, event, editorial, portrait, product, architecture and underwater fine art photography. He does work at home and overseas for commercial and independent photography projects.

His work goes beyond a simple documentation of the subject, and instead, it creates an emotion and new experience with that subject. His work is bold and visually striking and captures moments in an unusual way that grabs the viewer. Fine art prints of his best work are available for purchase.

Question and answer

Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.

A. I am typically hired to shoot both public and private events, head-shots / editorial portraits and architecture for my clients. The work rate ranges from per day / per hour or even per image basis. The client and I work together to find a price structure that works best for their needs. I also offer a 100% guarantee on the quality of my work. If for any reason the client is not completely satisfied with my photography I will either re-shoot for free or offer a full refund. I have never had an unsatisfied client and so I am very confident in my work and communication with my clients needs and expectations!

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Be sure to compare lots of photographers to get a good feel for what you are looking for and to make sure you find the right photographer for you. And remember that finding the cheapest photographer doesn't mean you just found the best deal. Some photographers that are inexpensive are often unprofessional as well and can lead to a bad experience.

And if their website is no good then don't expect their work to be either.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. Megapixels is just a selling point. So often people ask me what megapixel count my professional SLR camera is. It has little to do with the quality of the images or camera. What has much more of an importance is the quality of the lens and low noise capability of the sensor. These two factors far outweigh how many megapixels your camera is.

Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?

A. It depends on the type of photographer a customer is looking for but generally just be sure that the photographer is knowledgeable in the area of interest and most importantly that their quality of work demonstrates their knowledge.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. Having the pleasure of traveling to new places and meeting new people and finding creative solutions to their needs for photography.

Q. Tell us about a recent job you did that you are particularly proud of.

A. Recently I photographed the Twin Cities first annual all night art festival called Northern Spark. It was held last month and had a fantastic turnout. Next year should be even larger and I will again be their official photographer!
