Q. Describe three recent jobs you've completed.
A. Took over management of 13 homes for an owner living out of state. Leased several homes in the month of June 2013.
Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A. Make sure to check that the company and it's agents are licensed and in good standing with the BBB. Check to see if there are any hidden charges. Also, make sure they are using technology like Facebook and Twitter to drive leads to your home.
Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?
A. At Minnesota Home Rental, we want you to be successful. We are here to help with any questions, even if you want to do your own management. A few things you should look into before deciding if you should rent your home. Talk to your tax person or lawyer as there can be great tax benefits to renting out your home. You should also speak with your insurance agent to see what type of coverage you need. It is different, but not always higher priced. Then go to your cities website to see if they have any licensing requirements. Some cities require you (or your property management company) to complete an eight hour class with your police department before you can be licensed. Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?
A. When interviewing property management companies, you need to ask a lot of questions. Here is a list of questions we recommend you ask.
How do you advertise?
Are you the only person I can call with questions about my home?
How thorough are your background checks?
How do you handle all of the calls and emails regarding my home? What about on holidays?
How is maintenance handled?
Are you going to use a cell phone to take advertising pictures? (Hopefully the answer is NO!)

A. There are many things to consider before looking into a property management company like Minnesota Home Rental. Here are a few to think about:
If you are buying a new home and want to rent your current home you need to make sure you can get approved for both loans first. Even though you'll be receiving rental income, most lenders won't consider it as income until you've been renting it for two years.
If you are thinking of renting your home yourself, BE SURE TO DO A BACKGROUND CHECK! Nothing is more important than this! People prey on homeowners trying to rent out their homes by themselves and often use sites like Craigslist to find them.
Check with your association (if you live in a townhome) to see if they allow rentals. If they don't, ask about rent to own.
Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?
A. At Minnesota Home Rental, we do things differently. You won't just have one agent to work with. Yes, you can call any of us and we'll be able to help you. Of course if you want to call just one agent, that is fine too. With other companies you are assigned one agent. What happens to phone calls and emails about your property when that agent has appointments all day or is on vacation?
