I teach children and adults, beginners and advanced, and lessons are custom-shaped to the student's needs.

Lessons should be fun, but students also learn theory and the meaning of the elements of music. The end result, hopefully, is that students are becoming smart musicians, not just piano technicians who can read notes.

A Master's degree, years of experience, and solid pedagogy equip me to do a quality job--love of teaching helps too.

I want students to appreciate music in new ways and develop a life-long love of the art from having studied piano.

Joelle is an extraordinarily gifted musician and very talented instructor. I began lessons with her over two years ago and she has opened the world of classical music to me in a way I never thought possible. She is patient, helpful, and always quick to praise when I hit just the right note !

Question and answer

Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.

A. I teach piano to children or adults, and customize lessons to each student's needs.

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. If you are looking for a teacher with both credentials and experience, I have a Master's degree, good pedagogy, and many years of experience teaching both children and adults.

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. My piano teaching is calculated to help students become smart musicians who know the elements of music, not just piano technicians who know the right notes. I achieve this by integrating theory into the lesson, doing sight reading, ear training, and especially by working on proper phrasing when developing technical skills. A bit of discussion about music history and the life of the composer adds to the mix.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. I love when a student comes to piano with a smile, plays pieces with confidence, and has a sense of accomplishment in polishing a piece. It's very rewarding for me to see a student grow and advance in the love of music, since music is such an important part of our lives.

Q. Do you have a favorite story from your work?

A. I had a little third grade girl for lessons, and her little 5-year old brother would come to lessons and hover. Pretty soon Mom said that he knew his sister's pieces, as well as her upcoming recital piece. My interest was peaked, so I had him play for me, and, ineed, he knew her pieces. Not only that, but he had perfect hand position, good legato, and excellent rhythm. I asked him if he would like to play in the recital. So, he had his first recital before ever having a lesson. I love it.
