Introduction: Our studio is comfortable, flexible, and welcoming to students of every level and ability. We offer a friendly, neighborhood experience with a professional attitude towards instruction and dependability. 16 years in this location. Teaching piano and guitar is about patience and understanding each student's learning style. Being trained music educators gives our teachers that advantage. Teaching singing is as specific as teaching any other instrument, and should not be done by a teacher who does not specialize in vocal education. An academic understanding of how the voice works is essential to teach singing, especially for new singers. That, combined with decades of onstage performing gives me the ideal tools to help others learn to sing. I have been training and preparing singers for auditions, recitals, and performances for 20 years. My students have gone on to Berkelee School of Music, Northwestern University, The American Academy of Musical Theater, MacNally Smith, and many others. As a teacher, I get the most enjoyment out of seeing my students achieve their goals. Watching students progress, seeing the light in their eyes as they play, or sing songs they have worked on for weeks suddenly turn into music...that's the best part of teaching.

9 1/2 years and two children ago, my husband gave me piano lessons for Christmas. Sara was an awesome teacher for a beginner adult student. She understood that I had family priorities, but really wanted to learn. Slowly, ever so slowly, I was able to play basic songs! However, over time, and with added attention needed for my small ones, my lessons began to suffer. Soon I was no longer able to practice, so I gave my lesson time to my kiddos. For the last 4 (maybe 5?) years she has been teaching my daughters. The girls have VERY different approaches to music, and Sara has been able to keep them both interested & engaged with personalized music choices, reward challenges and just by being REALLY REALLY good with kids. She makes them feel at ease, easily redirects wandering brains, and makes it super fun. They end up learning & getting better every week (even though they don't practice as much as they should)! She has even been teaching a short lesson to our 5yo, who is eager to be like her big sisters! This past spring they played in their first piano recital. It boosted their confidence & made them want to try different, more difficult pieces. I cannot recommend Sara Diedrich & St Paul Music Lessons enough! Smart, talented, GREAT with kids, THIS is the place for easy going but thorough and thoughtful lessons that will have you looking forward to learning! Thanks, Sara, for being you!!!

Sara was an amazing teacher and someone that I liked instantly. I went to her for voice lessons and she helped me in more ways that I was expecting. My voice improved right away, but she also introduced me to a lot of new music and different kinds of music that suit my voice and my tastes. She was always on time, and very focused on the work. She utilized lots of different techniques to help me to overcome the different obstacles I faced when hitting specific notes and had good warm ups to stretch out my voice. Also, at the end of every lesson, she would give me a CD of the lesson that day. It was an indispensable tool that allowed me to learn songs that would have otherwise been too difficult, and made it possible for me to practice outside of the lessons as I could not play any instruments and did not have any. Honestly, Sara Diedrich was both a fun person to work with as well as the best person that I have ever dealt with professionally. She was on time, focused, nice, fun, conversational, and an excellent teacher with lots of perspective and flexibility with her students.

Sara has been teaching piano or voice to at least one of our kids for the past 11 years. We feel extremely fortunate to have found Sara, and grateful to have her in our lives this past decade. She has fostered not only an appreciation for music, but a passion for it in our children -- especially our teen aged son. Sara is not only a skilled musician, she has an innate ability to develop a unique relationship with each child. She is able to meet each student wherever they are at. We have four very spirited children with differing temperaments. She has been able to adjust her teaching style to accommodate their needs while remaining firm in her expectations for behavior, practice, and music development. I’m certain our son would have quit music lessons long ago with a different teacher – but with Sara’s patient, flexible, supportive style he has flourished and now wants to become a music teacher himself!
