There is an art to creating a beautiful and well designed home. I use simple design principals to create balance, contrast and harmony. Stir in over 30 years interior design experience and a great passion for design and detail; this is Butwinick Interiors!

Every client and every project is very important to me.

I work closely with qualified and seasoned professionals in many fields; carpets & Oriental rugs, lighting, wood flooring, garden and patio, original artworks and custom cabinetry and the finest custom drapery in the Midwest.

Before starting a new remodeling project or building a new home, call me for a consultation. Discussion at this stage can help with placement of lighting and furniture.

Do you really want the thermostat placed in the center of that big wall? Maybe your idea of a new sectional won't fit! Where do you plug in the lamp...seriously this pops up all the time.

My goal is your comfort and satisfaction in a well designed home from Butwinick Interiors.

Question and answer

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. Working with an interior designer is not only for the six figure income family. A good designer can become a valuable resource when investing in your first piece of furniture, choosing a color to paint your living room or your house, selecting energy efficient window covering and getting 2nd opinions on floor coverings. The cost of a designers time can save you from costly mistakes.

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. When I design a home it is never trendy and consequently looks great 10 years later. I suggest fine wood products that last a lifetime and well built upholstery. My designs are reflections of my clients taste and lifestyle, therefore every design is unique.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. Working with people from many styles of life. I love big homes, small condos, lake homes and vacation homes. My clients work with me for years, through multiple homes or moves. I find I often work with children of clients as they grow and buy their own homes.

Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A. Many people do not understand how to work with a designer. Most often the first question is how much do you charge...which should be the last question.
Designers are compensated with an hourly fee or by a markup on products sold to the client.
I receive discounts from design showrooms nationwide. I pass a discount on to my client and I keep a portion of the markup as my profit.
I work hourly when reviewing a floor plan prior to construction, for color consultations, when shopping for furnishings from retail stores for a client and for meeting delivery trucks for furniture, window treatments installs, artwork installations and rug delivery.

Q. Do you have a favorite story from your work?

A. When I began works for Daytons in 1988, one of my first housecalls led me to a beautiful home near Lake Of The Isles. As a "Daytons Designer" I was asked to rearrange all of the artwork in the living room. I retreived my hammer fom my car and set to work. Two hours later I finished and requested a check made out to Daytons for 2 house of design time. I was informed that since the artwork was purchased from Daytons there would be no check.
I guess I was practicing green design before green was in.
