Survey findings and summary
Thumbtack.com, in partnership with the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, has released the new results from the second annual Thumbtack.com Small Business Survey. The 2013 study draws upon data from over 7,000 small business owners nationwide and shows that Missouri slipped slightly, dropping from a 'B-' overall grade in 2012 to a 'C' this year.
Some of the key findings for Missouri include:
- Missouri earned a 'B' for the ease of hiring additional employees in the state and a B-' for its licensing and permitting requirements.
- Among major cities nationwide, Kansas City earned an 'A-' overall, while St. Louis received a 'B' grade. KC was rated the easier city for starting a business, with small businesses giving it an 'A-' in the category, as compared to St. Louis's 'B-' grade.
