Introduction: How did I go from playing football to where I am now? Well while I was playing football at Mizzou my coach pulled me over and asked, what's your major going to be? He pointed to my transcript and asked "What classes are these?", he had never seen that class code. I mentioned they were art classes, he laughed and said, "Okay, well, guess what? You're an art major now." Thanks to my coach, I was pointed in the right direction. The reality is, I've always been an artist. I grew up with acrylic paints, colored pencils, Nikons and Hasselblad's in my hands. I still draw every chance I get, now it's just storyboarding. I spent my childhood on the sets of Hollywood motion pictures with my father and in salons and makeup trailers with my mom on whatever location the production took us. I grew to love the industry. One of the things my college coaches always told me, while making the team run sprints, was "the work ethic we establish today will carry on for the rest of our lives." Most of us thought our coaches were full of crap. "They like just watching us run until we puke," we would say. But as it turns out, they were right. I hate them for it, but they were right. The one thing working so hard on the football field taught me is how important it is to work hard and how to do so as a team to make amazing things happen. One of my ad clients who recently ran my ad as the back cover in the New York Times Magazine said, "You are the hardest working photographer I have ever met." that is quite a compliment. After college football, I progressed to the NFL. Once my time with the NFL ended, one day, I was hanging out in the salon where my mom worked and I asked her if she wanted to open a spa with me. "Sure Kyle, just go get your license," she joked. So I did and promptly opened a spa for my mother. It has been in operation for the past 12 years. I began by doing web development in 2002. After hiring several photographers to create images for client websites, I quickly realized as an artist I could do a much better job. This realization is what got me into commercial photography, years later. In 2009 I completed my masters in web development. I quickly realized I love the story telling side of advertising and marketing more than the programing side. So the fun continues with a camera in hand. I bill based on a day rate and usage without all those pesky add-ons. I tether my camera to my laptop during shoots so we get immediate feedback. I'm a post production guru so my work is ready for your viewing pleasure almost immediately. As a fine artist I produce all the work myself on my industry leading large format printers so the product is always fantastic and ready for gallery display. At the end of the day I am a people pleaser who works hard and produces gallery worthy products.
