Question and answer

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. I teach using the Musikgarten curriculum, which is the only Early Childhood Music and Movement program with a 9 year plan for your child - from babies through beginning piano classes! Each class includes activities specifically chosen for your child's age and developmental level.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. I love seeing a child get one of those "aha" moments! Watching the children grow and develop, and thinking how far they have come, gives me great joy. This job allows me to combine my two loves - music and children!

Q. Do you do any sort of continuing education to stay up on the latest developments in your field?

A. I have completed all levels of the Musikgarten training, from Family Music for Babies through Music Makers at the Keyboard, including Music Makers at the Keyboard for adults. I try to go to the Musikgarten Festival at least every other year, where teachers get ongoing education from teacher-trainers and from the founders. I also participate in phone conferences.

Q. If you have a complicated pricing system for your service, please give all the details here.

A. My classes are priced by the semester, depending on the length of class - 30 min., 45 min., 60 min. Since music with the family is so important, home materials are required. Payments may be made by the semester, or in 2 or 3 payments. Materials and registration fees are due with the first payment.

I offer sibling discounts of 50% off tuition for the 2nd (& 3rd) child. Referral discounts are also available when you bring a new family into the studio.

Private piano lessons are paid monthly at the first lesson of the month.

Details are on my web site at www.HaynesMusicStudio.com.

Q. If you were advising someone who wanted to get into your profession, what would you suggest?

A. If you love music and children, check out the Musikgarten program. It's the best curriculum available. Every spring they offer free preview workshops. Check one out at their web site at www.musikgarten.org. That's how I got started, and I fell in love with it immediately!
