Image Consultant, Color Analysis & Personal Shopping

Go beyond the outdated 4 seasons from the 80's and experience the modern European system of color analysis with a consultant personally trained by the United Kingdom's Pat Henshaw, author of the book "Color Me Confident."

Discover which of 24 highly individualized palettes works best to compliment your own natural coloring based on eye, hair and skin tones.

Learn how to combine the colors in your palette for the most flattering effects and build a wardrobe where all the pieces work together.

If shopping for clothes that flatter and play up your best features seems like a chore or you simply don't have the time, let an expert guide you toward choices that will compliment your body type and coloring. Then just let the compliments roll in.

Color analysis sessions typically last about 2 hours and include an introduction to color theory, testing for color characteristics, demonstration of the colors in your custom palette and how to combine them and a wallet of the swatches from your individual color palette.

Personal shopping is flexible and based on the needs of each client whether you are looking for a new wardrobe or just that perfect outfit for a special event. A pre-shop may be performed in order to save time and frustration for the client. The stylist will choose items from multiple stores that will suit her body shape, style personality and coloring. Then when the stylist and client go out together, the client only needs to try on the pre-selected items and determine together which ones work best for her needs. Coaching as to why certain styles work better for the client is provided during the excursion so that she will have the tools to find things that work well for her in the future. A color analysis is recommended before a personal shop, but a minimum of at least color testing and body shape consultation are required.

Wardrobe analysis is also available to assess what pieces of your existing wardrobe are workable or need just a few accessories to make them work and which pieces would be better in someone else's closet. This can be a good service in conjunction with a personal shopping appointment in order to determine what additional pieces need to be added to make complete outfits with items in your existing wardrobe.

Question and answer

  • Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.

    A. I most commonly do color analysis and personal shopping for clients. Personal shopping may be for an entirely new wardrobe for a new phase in life or for one stunning outfit for a special event.

  • Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

    A. I have been trained in both the Color Me Beautiful 4 seasons system of color analysis and the more modern European system that grew out of the old Color Me Beautiflul but has been updated and further customized. I much prefer the European system and that is what I use. It is much more accurate, using 24 different palettes rather than just 4 and provides far superior training of it's consultants.

When looking for an image consultant or personal shopper you shouldn't have to pay an exhorbitant amount to look your best. I pride myself at providing my services at a reasonable rate because I believe you shouldn't have to be rich to look your best. I try to keep client's budget in mind while shopping and offer a lower rate so that I can be allotted the time that is necessary to provide clients with the best outcome.

  • Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

    A. Because I use the color analysis system they use in Europe and was trained by the director of their company from the United Kingdom. It is a much more advanced and customized model than the old color analysis system in the U.S. which was based on the 4 seasons. My clients leave with the tools to evaluate colors for themselves and determine if they are right for them. I also pride myself on providing personal shopping and image consulting services at a reasonable rate and take into account client's budgets. I don't believe you should have to spend outrageous sums to look your best. I want people to be able to afford the time it takes to provide them the best services to meet their needs.

  • Q. What do you like most about your job?

    A. Helping people see the difference that the right colors and styles can have on their appearance and the way they feel about themselves. I love the aha moment when they see firsthand the difference the right color and wrong color makes in their skin tone or see how the right line, cut or length enhances their shape. I love to see their confidence shine when they know they look great.

  • Q. Do you have a favorite story from your work?

    A. Julie was a professional woman in her 40s who felt like her personal style needed some sprucing up to compete in this ever changing business world. With a family at home she didn't feel as though she had a lot of time or the skills necessary to devote to her image.

We started with a color analysis which revealed that she had clear coloring and would look best in bright and contrasting colors. A body shape analysis determined that she was a full hourglass shape and that her style personality was a cross between classic and city chic.

The next step was a wardrobe analysis where we went through her closet and realized she was wearing many of the wrong colors and particularly some jackets that were too boxy and not suited to her curvy shape. We worked on some new ways to combine outfits from items she already owned that were more flattering and determined what additional items we needed to look for to make complete outfits from things she already owned.

The next step was personal shopping. We started by doing a pre-shop where I went ahead of time and chose items from multiple stores that would work well for her figure and coloring. Then we went back together the next day, all she had to do was try on which saved time and frustration. We found lots of new jackets that were tailored to show off her curves and bright tops for underneath. We also found a great dress for a business awards reception she had coming up.

When I heard back from her later she said that a younger co-worker had commented that she had been wearing brighter colors and more pattern lately and while she looked great, it was kind of "freaking her out." We thought that was funny. Julie also said she was loving wearing some of the new colors in her palette like kelly green and that she had been doing some more shopping online now that she had the tools to know what to look for.

It was a lot of fun to work with her and the outcome was great. She was enjoying finding things that looked great on her rather feeling lost and dreading the process.
