Finding the leaders and keeping up with them is the only way to truly keep up in Web dev. The playing field changes too rapidly for old skool education to make sense.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
Hobby that turned into a passion. Started in the days of DOS on floppy drives.

50/50 Web development and OS X consulting.
