I wish I had done more research before hiring someone to help with work around my house. I found the other negative review on Thumbtack after having an identical experience with Michael Dunbar of Kyota Remodeling. I ended up wasting a lot of money for work that did not get completed. He tore into many small projects but only made a mess and didn't finish the work. The jobs that were finished were so poorly done that they had to be dismantled. This contractor put up a railing on my second story porch that was extremely wobbly and a deck floor that bounced when anyone stepped on it. I dismantled the "safety" railing with my bare hands, no tools required. When confronted about the shoddy workmanship, he claimed that everything was done according to modern building standards. Really? 2x4's are now standard decking joists? The whole deck was supported by 4x4's which he had notched out turning them into 2x2"s. The posts were loosely nailed into the overhanging part of the deck. I also pulled them up without using any tools. The 2x4's that he used for joists had also been cut into. One of them had less than an inch of wood left where it was attached to the chiseled out post. It was already broken and falling down when I took the deck apart. I purchased materials that did not get used in the two projects that he did for me. Seemed like he must have been using me to buy materials for someone else. Don't let this guy near your property.
