Some music teachers are too strict and rigid. They teach only the "proper" classical methods and effectively taking the fun out of music.
Others are too lax. They will show you how to play a music piece without explaining to you how it works. It is like learning to paint by numbers!
Get the best of both worlds. We will begin with the fundamentals and learn to play, within reason, some of your favorite songs. Just bring a CD or iPod (vinyl and tape, too). My aim is to coach students to know the instrument, so that they can start to learn songs by ear, improvise and write music!
Lessons are one on one in a studio space at one of St. Louis' best live music venues, Off Broadway, conveniently located near Arsenal and I-55. Private home lessons are also available.
Experienced players who want to improve their songwriting, music theory, technique, and improvisation are encouraged to call. Let us see if I have what you are looking for. All materials are provided, and beginners are welcome!
