Question and answer

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. I would ask to see a full wedding album- not just a portfolio of everything. How do the ceremony pictures look? Really look to see if the images are exposed correctly. Find out what kind of experience the photographer has. How many weddings have they shot? Have they ever worked for other photography companies or only for themselves? Do they have a formal education in photography? Can you talk to a former client for a reference?
Your wedding photos are very important. Take the time to research and review photographers. Don't just base your decision on price.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. In today's digital world, everyone who owns a DSLR thinks they're a photographer. We professionals have spent years evolving and perfecting our craft. There is so much more to photography than owning a DSLR. Photography is the art of light. And there is a lot more to understanding light than one might think. It's only through experience and education do you understand what different kinds of light will look like in a photograph and what settings you need to adjust in the camera to get the look you are trying to achieve. A full comprehension of the technical aspects of photography is not something that can be taught in a book. It's taught with experience and education.

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. My work stands out because I love what I do, and that shows in my photographs. I can't imagine doing anything else with my life. I am a photographer and an artist. I have over ten years of experience as a professional photographer. I have a formal education in fine arts photography and photojournalism. I understand the technical and aesthetic aspects of photography. I use strong composition and unusual angles to give my images that little something extra. I am a perfectionist with my work, so you know you're always going to get the best from me.

Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?

A. When I was very small, my favorite book was a book about horses. Everyone thought I loved horses- which wasn't true. It was the photographs that I loved. I got my first 35mm point and shoot camera in grade school. Since there were only 24 frames per roll of film, I was so careful to only take pictures that were "perfect." As I got older, my love of photography grew. I would look through my textbooks at the different photographs instead of paying attention in class. I took my first photography class when I was 17 and I knew it was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.
