A. * Be flexible
* Already have a logo created and a color scheme in mind, if seeking a website redesign.
*Understand that a lot of delays that occur with any website implementation occurs in the creation of content. This often means that you, the customer, have work you will have to do in this process. You know your business best and you should be able to communicate that in writing. A good copywriter can help you tweak it, but your typical web developer is not a copy writer.
* Keep your website simple. Avoid clutter.
* Your developer spends a lot of time in the webbspace. Humble yourself and trust them.
A. Like any business, there are those out to sell you a standard "package" and those who listen to your needs. This is YOUR website. While you need to trust your developer, make sure they also listen to you. They need to understand your needs. Respect any developer, who after listening, refers you to someone else. A good developer knows their limits.
A. Key questions to ask:
* Do you create a websites from scratch or do you use templates? (If you want something totally unique, a provider should start from scratch, keep in mind this will also cost you a lot more money. If you are looking to save money, starting with a template will get you further along in the process much more quickly.)
* What techniques do you use to increase my search engine presence? (answers that should raise some concern: overuse of directories and link farms. answers that are better: each business is unique, so there may be different strategies that can be employed. Someone good at SEO will spend time understanding YOU and your site and less on selling you a standard package.
A. *Are they seeking out a complete rebranding or a new website? These are two very different things. The former involves a lot more thought from many different perspectives. The latter is just one slice of a companies image.
A. *I use templates in order to start out with something that is at least 50% to 75% complete. This speeds up the development process.
*Most templates are customizable and a unique look and feel can be accomplished.
*I listen. I want to give you a website that is successful in communicating your message. There are NO cookie cutter solutions.
*I am flexible yet set good parameters. I want you to have the website YOU want, yet I will also keep you from making key mistakes.
A. How much does a new website cost?
Most of the websites will cost anywhere from $500 to $2500. Keep in mind most will fall around the $1500 range. While I display an hourly rate, we will set a fixed price contract prior to the start of any work. That contract will list all the work that will be accomplished. Any items outside of that initial scope will be considered at an additional cost.
