A. If you are hiring a long arm quilter like myself, look for samples and pictures of their work to be sure that the work is the quality and style that you want in your own quilt.

A. It is important that your teacher is well qualified. Karen Tinney is a Palmer/Pletsch Certified Sewing Instructor and has met and maintained rigorous standards to attain and keep this certification.

A. What kind of sewing class to take, are they beginner, intermediate, advanced?

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. I have been sewing for 45 years! What started as making Barbie clothes has now evolved into a full time business. I have extensive experience and expertise in all areas of sewing and quilting.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. I am passionate about all things sewing, quilting and fabric. I come into my store on my days off just to sew more for me!

Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A. Do you hem jeans?
Yes! Sometimes I think I have hemmed every pair of pants in Darby - but every day, more come in!

Do you replace zippers?
Yes - I replace zippers in all kinds of clothing and equipment.

Do you teach classes?
Yes - I teach a wide array of sewing and quilting classes, some at my store, and some with Darby Adult Education. I am a Palmer/Pletsch Certified Sewing Instructor.

Q. Do you do any sort of continuing education to stay up on the latest developments in your field?

A. As a Palmer/Pletsch Certified Sewing Instructor, I am required to do 100 hours of work each year to keep my certification up to date.
