Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: Many others who attempt to teach are not also working as a professional musicians. My wife and I both work professionally all over the first coast region. Also, I minored in Music in college, possess a strong theory background, and wrote and arranged for Stage/Jazz band in both high school and college. I have also traveled all over the world teaching classes in the hig-tech industry. What I like most is that I don't consider it a job but a privelege to teach people of all ages about music and the artistry involved in creating music. Music can be very theraputic to adults, and can help children learn to be better students. Learning an intsrument teaches concentration and focus like no other skill in life. It also opens the perspective of the mind to other cultures because of the many forms that music takes.

Harley and Shery have a music and recording studio right next to Johnny's Guitar Shop. That is where all the lessons take place. Gianni has been with Harley for about 3 years now, I think, and loves it so much that his week is not quite right if he can't go. Both Luca and Robbie have lessons there too (guitar and piano). We "occupy" a good chunk of Tuesday afternoon and I completely trust them with my boys' musical upbringing. Harley teaches the instruments and I take lessons with Shery. Shery is the voice coach of The Music Factory and brings years of experience to each lesson. My voice has improved tremendously with her gently guiding me. Both of them are in a band called "Shery & the Psychodelics". They have their own website under that name. It is totally worth your babysitter to go and see them, 'cause they sure know how to rock da house :-) They are so "into" music that they often go over the time (if there's no appt after), just because it's fun for them. The approach is artistic (as apposed to strictly from a book with homework etc) - they really try to let the kids "feel the music within you".

I took guitar lessons from Harley for about three years. He is extremely flexible and will teach you what you NEED to learn as well as what you WANT to learn regardless of the type of music you're into. Lessons are never tedious or repetitious.

EXCEEDED EXPECTATIONS! I am a single mom and to see the transformation and positive influence Harley and Shery has had on my son was amazing. The value of the music factory is above and beyond a 30 minute sesson. It's a life lesson.

I have been taking Vocal and Piano lessons at the Music Factory for over 7 months now and I love it! Mr.Harley and Mrs.Shery are such nice, helpful and dedicated teachers. I look forward to going every week and learning new things.

FAQs

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Don't go for cheap or convenient. Don't hire an instructor that just uses a book to teach. In-home servicers don't have a vast resource of materials available for the student. They only provide what they can carry. Don't hire someone who only reads tablature and can't read or write music notation. Definitely don't retain someone who hasn't written a single song! Do hire someone with lots of experience and pays attention to you and the student.
