My Mother asked Jay Mason to help her with 5 tasks while he was at her home working on an estimate to install an outdoor video surveillance system for us. The 5 tasks were (1) transfer the entire content of an iPad 2 to a new iPad Air, (2) reset and set-up the iPad 2 for a new user, (3) delete cookies and de-frag a laptop, (4) add a splitter to a shared phone/fax line, and (5) connect a HDTV antenna via a HTMI cable to a TV and scan to receive TV stations. Jay completed the first 4 tasks. Jay was unsuccessful at connecting the HDTV antenna to receive any TV stations. Jay sent me an invoice for $854.00 for his 8 hours of labor (8 hrs x $100/hr plus tax) for all five tasks. I cannot believe that it took him 8 hours to complete the 4 tasks and unsuccessfully complete the 5th task. When I questioned Jay about the amount of time, i.e., 8 hours, he expended for the simple tasks, he told me that is how long it took him to do those tasks and the $854.00 is his invoice for his time. Note that during this week it took me less than 15 minutes to connect the HDTV antenna to the TV and scan to receive 30 TV stations including WRAL HD (Raleigh station) to our TV located 80 miles away. I have no problem paying a labor rate of $100/hour. I do have a problem paying an IT specialist for 8 hours to do simple tasks that should have taken 4 hours. Jay Mason is a very nice and friendly man, but he is either very slow or he is not a talented IT specialist. If Jay did not know how to connect a HDTV antenna and scan to receive TV stations, he should have said so and not wasted his time and charged us for his wasted time for a task he could not do. I paid Jay the full $854.00, but I will NOT hire him again.

So I submitted a request to have my laptop serviced on Monday and within 5 minutes I had Jay contact me saying he could come check it out the next day. He was not only able to come and look at my computer which my wireless had abruptly quit working but he was able to fix the problem and have my laptop working like new as well as installing very simple security apps to keep my computer running smoothly. He was both very professional and knowledgeable and offers a wide range of other services he can provide. I highly recommend Mason's computer repair to anyone :)
