- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I was in roofing sales for almost 6 years, and quite often I found myself caught between servicing the homeowner and the roofer. The roofer (not all of them) just wants to cut cost and make more money, so he does not take the time to educate the homeowner as to what really needs to be on their roof. A salesman can't exactly say "Hey, Mrs Jones. What he's not telling you is you really need this, that and those to do your roof correctly," when the roofer buys X amount of dollars from the company he works for. It's a catch 22 for any professional. I learned over time that not everyone cares about their roof, they want it done cheap regardless. But there are homeowners who want to have their roof installed correctly and with quality material by a quality contractor. I decided it was time to give the Homeowners of WNC a roofing company who isn't going to "Blow n Go." We do a roof right, with the right materials, or we won't do it.
