Collins Mountain Grading did a great job for us. Very reliable and thorough and pleasant to work with. Good communications and punctual - they showed up when they said they would, which is always a plus! Great job!

Question and answer

Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.

A. Gravel driveway maintenance and construction, subdivision road grading, site clearing and preparation, French drains, yard leveling.

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Meet with the contractor, try to provide as clear and careful a description of what you want done. Realize that you may need to involve other professionals for complicated jobs. Grading contractors may have some knowledge about landscaping, engineering and soils but they are not landscape architects, engineers or soil scientists.

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. We provide intelligent solutions to grading problems, give prompt, courteous, and thorough service at a reasonable price.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. I like to do challenging work that leaves our customers in a better situation than before we did our work. I particularly like results that improve the beauty and function of someone's property. I am also most pleased when I am able to do the work for less than the cost estimated.

Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A. How much will this work cost? My usual answer is that we generally work by time and materials. I cannot always anticipate what will be below the ground, what delays we will encounter, when work will go fast or when it will go slow. But I am usually able to make a pretty good estimate of the cost, and rarely need to charge more than that figure.

I live in a subdivision with a mile long gravel road. Four years ago, when I took over maintenance of our road, it was practically impassable; the postman would not deliver mail. Because we couldn't afford an expensive road crew, I consulted Mike Resnik. He worked within our modest budget to get the road in shape—bit by bit, season by season, year by year. Now I can proudly say that we have one of the best gravel subdivision roads in Chatham County. When it comes to road work, Mike is both a perfectionist and an artist; and he gets the job done for at least 50% less than other grading companies. As the person now in charge of our road, I recommend Collins Mountain Grading without reservation! (BTW, a friend of our now-retired postman just purchased a lot near the end of the road. Now that's a testimonial!)
