  • "Freedom" for some Charlotte Area Dogs...

    Hello,

Saw this article yesterday and thought I would share:

    http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2011/07/11/2444904/group-links-dogs-freedom.html

... Although fences are certainly no substitute for one-on-one, human-to-canine contact (i.e. play time and, most importantly, walk time), they are a great alternative to tethering (i.e. rope, cable or chain leads)!

Pig ears recalled due to possible salmonella contamination
    Posted: 03 May 2011 07:21 PM PDT
Pig ears manufactured by Keys Manufacturing Company, Inc. are being recalled due to possible salmonella contamination. From the Associated Press:

WASHINGTON (AP) — An Illinois company is recalling pet chews made of pig’s ears because they could be contaminated with salmonella.

One illness, to a dog in Missouri, has been linked to the chews, called Pig Ears for Pet Treats. The product is being recalled by the Keys Manufacturing Co. Inc. of Paris, Ill.

Salmonella can affect animals, and there is risk to people from handling contaminated pet products.

The bacteria can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, elderly people and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. Pets with salmonella may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea fever and vomiting.

The pet treats were distributed in Arkansas, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas and Virginia.

Consumers can return the pet treats to the place of purchase for a full refund.

I called the company to find out more but the guy I talked to didn’t know the details. I suspect there will be more info out tomorrow though because he said the FDA was scheduled to pay them a visit. – May 05, 2011 at 1:34 pm

Pet owners Lori and Don Waldo started Walkin'-n-Waggin' pet sitting / dog walking services in the Fall of 2004. Currently, we are teamed with only the most conscientious and trustworthy, professional pet sitters / dog walkers, including, Liz Weston, Jo Anne & Don Means, Marco Ceccarelli, Cynthia Carr, and Marti McElroy.

Walkin'-n-Waggin' strives to provide expert and reliable pet sitting / dog walking services to each of its customers throughout the Charlotte area. Accordingly, the American Humane Society states that pets are most content when they are home and surrounded by those sights, sounds and smells familiar to them. Unlike boarding services, your pets will not be unnecessarily exposed to potential disease or parasites; nor will they be placed in potentially stressful situations. Moreover, with a bit of training, we can safely walk even those pups who have become accustomed to walking you (-:

Bottom line: When your pets are visited by one of Walkin'-n-Waggin's licensed, bonded and Pet First Aid certified walkers / sitters, you can be assured that your pet(s) and your home will be well taken care of. And, after our last scheduled visit, we will call to confirm that you have returned safely to those you love. (-:

Question and answer

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Ask for proof of insurance and bonding; moreover, ask for proof that said coverage is current and not expired. It's too easy for a careless, unprofessional sitter to let their insurance and or bonding expire; it's even riskier for you as a pet / homeowner to take anything for granted. A true professional will have proof of their coverage with them on your initial meet & greet. Do your due-diligence now, so you won't be sorry later.

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. With 7+ years experience, we pride ourselves on our ability to give your pets the best care possible. We all love what we do; are good at what we do; and have the experience, and reviews, to prove it. There are few jobs too small (we've cared for fish, mice and even shrimp -- yes, as in the crustaceans) or too big (we've taken dogs that "couldn't be walked" and transformed them into "model walkers".

Just remember, with Walkin'-n-Waggin', you can:

Leave your pets at HOME and your worries to US!!

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. Sharing time with so many different pets.

My husband and I have a large family of unconventional kids including 2 boxers, a cockatiel and a salt water tank. When we were looking for a new pet sitting service, who ever we found had big shoes to fill and Walkin-n-Wagging not only filled them but overflowed them with love and kindness for our little family.
In 2006 we went on a vacation out of the country. During that trip our boxer who has since passed away in 2008, came down with an extreme case of pancreatitis. Not only did they recognize the seriousness of her illness and rushed her to the vet but also went by daily to visit and comfort her until we could make it home.
With our new boxer additions, we have a busy house with lots of dishes to fill, walks to take, feathers to fluff, and fish to feed and I never doubt the care and love the will receive when we are away from home.

My husband and I have been using Walkin-n-Waggin for over 4 years and counting. Finding such great people to not only care but also love our animals like we do is wonderful. We can go on vacation with a peace of mind knowing our baby will be well taken care of at home!!

We have been using Walkin' n Waggin' for over three years now . I never worry about my cats because I know that our pet sitters are reliable and will take good care of them. If I have any extra small requests, they always take care of them no problem and even manage my cats unusual food requirements without complaint. Will be using their services for a long while yet!

I have been using Walkin'-n-Waggin' for my six year old German Shepherd Dog for the last three years. I'm sure most of you are concerned about who you trust to care for your furry loved ones, and I can assure you, WNW is the best!

I interviewed many many sitting services and none had the professionalism or experience that WNW does.

My GSD is from strong working lines, and she needs someone who can understand her needs, especially her play-drive. WNW took the extra time to visit with us and get to know the dog. I appreciated it and knew instantly they were the ones to trust my dog with. That was three years ago, and its been a great relationship ever since.

You know you have a great pet sitter when they don't send a Christmas card to you, they send one to your dog!!! :-)

We have used Walkin'-n-Waggin' for several years. I always feel warm and fuzzy knowing Don will be taking care of our gang. We have never had any problems, wonderful little paragraphs detailing each visit are left and Don emails or calls to let us know everything is fine. Each caretaker seems to really enjoy what they do and enjoy being around kitties. We don't leave home without Walkin'-n-Waggin'!!!!

Don and Lori have been taking care of our pets for several years. Since we have been using their pet sitting services our travels have been much less stressful. We have 3 cats and 2 dogs. The savings versus boarding all our babies is tremendous. In fact, the last time I priced it, the difference was more than $600 for a five day trip. Aside from saving money, having Walkin-n-Waggin is so much better for our animals. They stay calm and happy while we are away.. and so do we! It's great knowing someone checks on our animals and our home every day. Don and Lori think of everything. They're the best!

Walkin'-n-Waggin' has been such a help for house & pet sitting. Both of my dogs tend to be too nervous to be left at a kennel. Don & Jo have taken great care of my pups & my house, including the very first time they cared for them when one of my dogs got sick. They cleaned up everything and gave extra TLC during this tough time.

Walking-n-Waggin has been taking care of my sheltie, Lincoln, for the last 2 years and I would definitely recommend them. Its great to come home after work and get to read the notes they leave each day!

Walkin-n-Waggin has provided me soo much peace in times away from home....I have been using them for over 3 years...as we all do, we adore our animals, and can find it very difficult to separate ourselves from them, but having the confidence in The Walkin-n-Waggin team makes all those worries dissolve, I can genuinely say if I didn't trust and fully know how wonderful they are to my baby....that I may haveissed lots of things in the last few years...but instead I have enjoyed them and known my sweet baby was in the best of hands. Use them, you can't go wrong!

The Walkin'-n-Waggin' Team are outstanding!! Our family has been using their services for at least 3 years now. They are extremely reliable, professional, and leave us with a secure feeling as we leave for our family trips away from home. Our pets always have that "well looked after" feel when we return home.

We have lived through a transition from older pets that passed away to our now "new kids". Walkin'-n-Waggin' didn't miss a beat and demonstrated their expertise as we muddled through the "chewing" years again.

We will continue to request their services well into the future I'm sure!

I have been utilizing the services from Walkin'-n'Waggin' for almost 6 years. The professionalism and true caring for my dogs was evident from the very beginning and continues today. Their sitters / walkers truly do care about animals. My dog is so happy to see them and is in such a good mood when I return from trips. I know he has received the very best of care while I was gone. I enjoy working with Don, and Jo Anne and Don are the very best!!! My dog even calls them Aunt Jo and Uncle Don!!! Walkin'-n'Waggin' gets my highest ratings!!!!
