As a result of another company going out of business, Hibiscus Graphix was developed. The orders and relationships that were created by that company would disappear. It was easy getting set-up, but keeping connected and reaching out was a challenge.

Also a huge contributor was networking as well. While working for many sign companies over the years, I was motivated by the Business Leaders of Charlotte's (BLOC) president to go out on my own full-time. The push that brought about Hibiscus Graphix's growth was the support from that organization.

Question and answer

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Having a custom logo lets people know you are serious about your business. It is what makes you stand out from the rest. If designing ur own logo remember -simple can be better - one thats too busy loses attention. You can't just pull something off the web and make it your logo.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. Networking is key and will help grow any business. When you go you have to pass out business cards. This is the #1 way to stand out and if you meet people you want them to keep your card so it has to be designed well. Great design starts with vector graphics, which is a graphic type of file that anyone who pays someone like me for work should get and own as yours.

Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?

A. What types of files do I get to use after the files are completed and approved?
Are the files my property? (you shouldn't have to pay extra)
Is this design going to work in one color? (for ad specialties & affordable printing options)
