FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I am flexible on pricing. Depends on distance needed to travel, hours spent teaching (more hours = lower pricing), and preparation time needed. Always happy to discuss and find a price that works for both of us.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
With a new customer, I typically give one free class, and then let him/her decide whether to continue working with me. I feel the student out, device a strategy best-suited to helping him/her learn, and then work with parents to make sure it's implemented. The strategy, of course, should be adjusted according to the student's needs.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a B.A. in English from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. I've been a full-time professional private tutor for the past ten years. This has mostly been in Shanghai, China, where I learned Chinese and gained all types of experience: I have had clients of all ages (2-40), nationalities, special needs, and backgrounds, and for a variety of subjects and test preparations. I have had many of the same students for over four years, and have expanded my client base solely by word of mouth. References are available if needed. I also worked for three years in Brooklyn, NY, and now in the countryside of NC. I have experience teaching in classroom settings, to adults, teenagers, and pre-schoolers. I have taught test preparation for SHSAT, SAT, TOEFL, business English, ESL, and more.
