Introduction: A little of our LMLC story:
Jeana and I have been music instructors for over 20 years. We have taught in music stores, in students' homes as well as out of our own home-based music studio. For the last 15 years, our preference has always gravitated towards instructing out of our home-based music studio because of the flexibility it affords us in being able to control the learning atmosphere that the students find themselves in when having their lessons.
Quite possibly, you are interested in learning the wonderful language of music or furthering your musical abilities on an instrument. It could be that someone in your family has a burning desire to rekindle those musical embers of time past. You may know of a friend, a family member or even an acquaintance at work who is actively looking for a music teacher in the area for their children or even for themselves. Over the years, we have had the awesome privilege of teaching both young and old the rich language of music, be it on a bass, electric or acoustic rhythm guitar, piano, drums or even vocals. Our adult students have learned the value and reward of playing music even in their adulthood. It is a wonderful way to de-stress as well as give the dormant musical creativity within opportunity to find expression. I've even had adult students come for music lessons who have horror stories of poor music lesson experiences from when they grew up and want to overcome those unhelpful memories that have for whatever reason still gripped them into their adult life.
Our mission has always been, 'Enriching the lives of young and old through music.' This still holds true today. We will consider teaching as young as 6 years old as determined on an individual basis. In terms of the music lessons themselves, style of music is broad and varied. Teaching methodologies are based upon the needs and learning styles of each individual student. Whilst individual lessons make up the large percentage of our teaching week, we aren't opposed to various group lessons of varying sizes.
Steven and Jeana together offer workshops called "music boot camps" to local churches to help train and equip their musicians to make a "skilled" and not just joyful noise.
Steven Holdstock
Steven was born and raised in South Africa and began playing the piano at the age of 9. As a result of hard work, natural gifting, and an excellent instructor, Steven began playing professionally at the age of 12 and continued to do so through his teenage years and beyond. At the age of 15, he had completed his grade seven musical proficiency test. He later furthered his studies at the Psalmody Academy for the Performing Arts in South Africa. Steven's love for music did not stop with the piano, and he has ventured into the study of other instruments including, but not limited to, guitar (electric and acoustic), bass guitar, saxophone, etc. His skills really shine through in his ability to teach and inspire others to develop and release the musical giftedness within themselves. He offers private instruction in piano and guitar.
Jeana Holdstock
Jeana was born and raised in Virginia, USA. Her love for music began at an early age -- after graduating from high school. Jeana studied voice and piano at CFNI, Dallas, TX. Jeana began teaching shortly after graduating from CFNI. She later continued her studies at The Psalmody Academy of Performing Arts in Johannesburg, South Africa (which is where she met her husband). She has continued to hone her skills and teach throughout her adult life. She offers instruction in piano and voice in both private and group setting as well as beginner drums. She also offers group "Music and Movement" classes to the young at heart (preschool through grade 1) to lay a foundation for the love of music.
Business Policies
We have found through years of teaching that the most effective way to help potential clients make an informed decision that is truly in their best interest is to make ourselves available for a possible interview. So, that would be the next step for interested music lovers. We would meet at our home based studio. Our time together usually lasts 45 minutes and is at no cost to you and with no further obligation unless there is a real sense from our side and our potential students side that the fit both in policies as well as in teaching style and methodology is potentially a good one. Plus there is the important aspect of human “chemistry “ for want of a better term that speaks to teacher and pupil being put together in private lessons where understanding and communication is so important.
Please note: Thumbtack has a very limited scope in terms of tuition rate options. We charge $95 per month NOT per lesson. Just to be clear. Our rate for time spent in private 30 minute lessons is $30 and 60 minute lessons $60.
Please do not respond back to us unless you are serious about moving forward with your inquiry as it costs us for that response.
