About Vada Dicey Photography

Trends come and go. Love and Art are Forever. Creating classically beautiful wedding, portrait, and event photography since 2007.

That's the year I earned my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in photography from Guilford College in Greensboro, NC. Since then, I've honed my craft through a three year association with an award winning studio and numerous workshops, classes, and webinars. I also teach beginning photography at a local arts organization, and just this year have initiated an afterschool photography class that will eventually expand to every middle school in Guilford County. I'm based in Greensboro, NC, but have traveled to various locations including Charleston SC, Jacksonville FL, Hilton Head, Bald Head Island, Asheville and the North Carolina mountains, Virginia, and Washington DC. I love going to new places, and am available for worldwide travel.

I offer a full-service, boutique photography experience. Whether you are planning a wedding or your yearly family portraits, I am with you from the beginning stages to the moment you hang your portraits on the wall. Together we will create beautiful works of art that preserve your precious memories for many years to come.

Vada and her staff were very professional. The pictures were amazing and we hardly knew they were there. We recommend her to all of our friends for any professional photography.

I have used Vada several times for pictures. I love how easy she is to work with and she is able to engage my sometimes difficult son. She is great at working with kids and adults :-) The final product always receives a lot of compliments. She is wonderful.

Our experience with Vada Dicey Photography has been great. Her work is amazing and her prices are reasonable. She is polite, prompt, and professional. She did a wonderful job capturing my 2-year-old's personality on film and we're looking forward to our next photo session with her!

Vada was terrific. She was very flexible about our location and times. We shot at Carolina's campus on a gorgeous spring day. This was an extended family shoot, meaning we had a large group and several smaller groups. Vada was incredibly sensitive to the children and their shorter attention spans. Her warmth, sense of humour, and obvious experience with children allowed her to get so many shots where every single person was smiling and engaged. I cannot say enough about Vada's work. We are just delighted.

Question and answer

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Your wedding day is one of the most important days of your life. You don't want to entrust your precious memories to the wrong person. Look for a photographer that you "click" with. You're going to be spending your entire day with this person: it's important that you are comfortable with them. Yes, you want to love the work they have done with other wedding couples, but you also want to love them! I go into every wedding I shoot feeling like I am friends with my couples.

Ask for references! A fantastic wedding photographer is going to have happy clients coming out of their ears! I am happy to provide you with the contact information of my past couples, and I know that they will give me glowing reviews.

Ask to see an entire wedding. Just about anyone can come up with 20 great images to throw on a website. I prefer to show my prospective couples an entire wedding gallery so that we can all be sure that my style meshes with your vision for your day.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. First of all, this is not an easy job! Anyone who tells you it is hasn't done it the right way :) I spend an average of 8 hours in prep time and post-production for every hour I spend behind the camera. So for an 8 hour wedding, I'm actually working approximately 48 hours! Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't trade this career for anything: but I do work my hiney off to make sure that you are getting the absolute best of me on your wedding day.

I think people also don't know how much time and money a good wedding photographer invests in making themselves better. I spend thousands of dollars every year in equipment upgrades, workshops, webinars, professional association fees, and other continuing education opportunities to stay at the top of my game.

Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?

A. What is your back-up plan if something happens to you and you can't shoot my wedding?

This is every photographer's worst nightmare. What if I break my leg the week before your wedding and can't shoot? I have a network of incredibly talented photographers that I regularly work with: if something happens to me and I absolutely cannot come to your wedding (and this has never happened!) I know that I can call on someone who shares my vision and professionalism to take care of you on your special day.

What if you get hurt at my wedding? Are you going to hold me responsible for your injury?

Absolutely not. I carry personal liability and injury insurance so that you don't have to worry about this. In fact, many venues requires vendors to be insured and will not allow uninsured vendors on the premises.

What if I don't like the final product? Do you guarantee your work?
First, it isn't likely that you are going to be unhappy with your images. In the hundreds of weddings I have photographed, I have never had a dissatisfied bride. Second, if we cannot find a way for you to love your images, I will happily offer you a full refund. Keep in mind, there are always going to be some shots you just don't love. That's why you have a proof set. You will end up picking 80-100 out of several hundred proofs for your album: my couples have an agonizing time narrowing it down that far!
