FAQs
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I noticed that there was a significant gap in communication between what we wanted of our dogs and what the dogs were portraying. This helps me mend that gap and help give dog owners a more harmonious life with their dogs.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
The most common training practices are obedience and behavior modification. However, lately, there has been a higher demand for specialized services such as personal protection or service dog training. Common issues include the dog simply not listening, pulling on walks, bolting out the door, and jumping. Difficult cases include severe dog aggression (towards humans and other dogs) and phobias.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
To really consider if they are getting the service they need the first time around, and are getting it from people who have reputable credentials and have extensive references from different areas of dog training. Personally, I've worked in training facilities that claim that they provide this excellent service to the dogs they are training, and I saw what was really going on behind the scenes. More times than not, these people put more time and money into their marketing, than they do actually working with the dogs. Other times, I see other trainers insist a one-way approach (purely positive) which is the safest approach, but the clients and their dogs aren't making much progress after 2 months of training! The trainer needs to give you the results you desire, while keeping your dog's interest and trust.
