Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A. Always look for a licensed contractor who will obtain the appropriate building permits. Any job over $5,000 requires a building permit and any job over $ 30,000 requires a licensed contractor. A cabinet dealer who is not also a licensed contractor has neither the expertise or training to properly remodel your kitchen.
Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?
A. Make sure everything is spelled out in your construction agreement. Payment schedules, construction schedule, allowances and material list. "Low ball" bidding is becoming more common. A low price upfront, may not be a low price at completion.
Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?
A. Do you have the appropriate license for this job? Will you obtain the necessary permits? Do you have any references for similar work? Do you have liability and workman's compensation insurance?
