About Diane McKinney Photography

The giggle on your flower girl's face, your baby’s smile and bright eyes and your family with all its diversity and personality. When you wish to capture that emotion and those moments in a photo, the 1st question that comes to mind is “who can I trust with such special moments?”

Diane McKinney is an accomplished photographer who has been published both nationally and locally. She has been featured in the national Best of Weddings Knot magazine, as well as in many local magazines such as Southern Bride & Groom, Carolina Bride, Weddings magazine and more. Most recently, she was awarded the Brides Choice Award from Martha Stewart Weddings and Wedding Wire. Additionally, she has shot for Cary Magazine for a number of years in the past on a regular basis.

Having somebody who can capture that meaningful look when you and your husband-to-be exchange glances, those fleeting moments when your flower girls are giggling, and the proud expression on the face of your father, the right photographer could make all the difference in the world.

Digital negatives are available.

Question and answer

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. The most important thing would be experience. With a challanging economy many people have picked up photography which has been a hobby and are trying to make it a profession. But it takes at least a year of shooting at least 30 weddings to get enough experience to be able to handle the little hiccups of the day. Additionally anyone can get a couple of good shots but the experience comes in getting ALL the important shots consistently.

The thing I have found most lacking in our industry from the true professional photographer is the sense of business to it. True photographers are usually great artists but not so good at business so trying to get your pictures or albums in a timely fashion seems to be generally lacking. We usually have our images up within a week to two weeks after the wedding and albums are typically designed within two weeks of the brides submission of image choices. We pride ourselves in this area.

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. Not only is the work beautiful but it captures the true essence of the day. Capturing the emotion of the moment is our specialty. We make it fun for everyone involved. We give modeling tips to help you look your best as well. We have different albums from all over the world for a wide selection and include the digital negatives in most of our packages.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. What's not to like?! A wonderful event, the best time of peoples lives up to this point. Everyone looks gorgeous and a full decorated back drop! in my opinion the best kind of shoot. Of course I know many photographers who don't like shooting weddings. You HAVE to be comfortable with what I call 'controlled chaos"! And we are VERY comfortable!~

Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A. Lots of questions but the most important are that we have been in business for over 8 years and have a LOT of experience shooting weddings. We do include digital negatives in most of our packages which is a very common question. And we have back up equipment for everything.
