- Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
I was contacted about doing some 'drywall/sheetrock'. The client wanted it for a 'foreclosure' he bought. It was his intention to be a 'rental' unit when he got done with the repairs. Well, I went in and 'gutted-out' about three rooms of badly damaged drywall. I hung and finished it - but it took me longer than I had anticipated - I lost money. But as the saying goes, 'hard work pays off in the end' - the client knew I underbid the job and not only gave me the "painting" phase for the whole house, but the "flooring" phase, too!!! With alittle sweat and determination - I was able to 're-coup' what I had lost and make a decent wage at the end!!!
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Get in touch with them. You can usually tell how a person is over the phone. If they are skilled in the trades, schedule an appointment with them to come out and give you a written estimate. That way, the person and yourself will know pretty well how it is going to get done. From estimate to final clean-up, it should flow.
