I stumbled onto Heartwood Restorations by accident. After initially asking if they could repair a kitchen chair with a broken spindle I have subsequently had Miguel make inprovements to the entire set of kitchen chairs to make them stronger and then brought my antique dining room chairs in to have them re-glued and re-upholstered. The finished products are amazing, Miguel is a true craftsman and his attention to detail is a delight to see in an era when people want to take shortcuts! I recommend him to all my friends and encourage you to seek his services with any piece no matter how large or small. You will not be disappointed!

Miquel has repaired our 300 year old dining room chairs. He did
a thorough and excellent job in re enforcing the seats and frames
and reconstructing delicate backs some of which had splintered
into pieces. He picked them up and delivered them back to us.
I recommend his work.

We used Heartwood Restorations to restore 4 chairs that are over 100 years old. The work was outstanding as the chairs look like new! We were given a estimate for both the time and cost and Heartwood delivered on time and on cost. The service was great, Heartwood provided email updates on the progress. Outstanding skill on restoring the chairs (I still can not believe how great the chairs look and hold strong the chairs are) combined with great customer service, all at a very fair price! We have other pieces that we will be bring to Heartwood to be restored. This was a Great Job!

A. To always look for a professional that not only offers a responsible and technical description and estimate towards an antique piece of furniture, but also to dialogue to the client into different approaches that can be done that can meet the client's wishes.
A. From a customer point of view, I think it's interesting to know what the professional has to say about your antique or piece of art, not only the restorations quote but also how much time it needs to be repaired; if it is genuine to a certain era or style or if it is a replica; what construction techniques are envolved in the creation of the piece and what's the best approach to conserve it's originality.
A. How much time will take to repair; what is the urgency for the client to have the piece ready after treatment; what maintenance products and actions should the client have to preserve the restored item.
A. My work stands out because not only I demonstrate to conserve and restore a piece of furniture with the skills needed, always respecting what is original and what needs to be originally kept, but also I educate the client to preserve the piece in a long term, giving him tips, providing him with a summary report of the treatment done, and also giving him a CD with all of the pictures taken of before, during and after treatment.
A. The best thing is to never know what a new client will bring in the studio to restore... In most of the times, a new project brings new challenges, it makes us think and re-think of different ways to solve the existing damages, and that's one of the most exciting facets of this professional field.
A. I worked in 2007 and for two years with a team of 5 conservators in The Metropolitan Museum of Art, N.Y., doing the study and conservation of a magnificent huge painted and gilt ceiling that belongs to the Islamic Art collection, hung recently to the public in the MET's second floor of the new galleries for the Art of the "Arab Lands, Turkey, Iran, Central Asia, And Later South Asia".
