I am a university English professor with many years of experience as a private tutor and editor of educational publishing materials.
I work with grade-school, high-school, and college students as well as professionals in need of a refresher course in formal and business writing. My tutoring is geared towards enhancing the natural abilities of my clients and developing these in such a way as to enable them to write with confidence and credibility on a range of subjects and in a variety of genres.
.
Even my most resistant students and clients have come to find that they do have the ability to write well, and that English does not have to be their worst subject. It's all about setting goals and understanding the materials.
While I recommend working together in person, I am available for online as well as in-person sessions. (College-level, graduate, and business clients only).
I travel to clients living in Hunterdon County and Mercer County including Princeton, Hopewell, Flemington, Stockton, and the Lambertville area. We can also arrange to meet at a half-way point or at my office in Flemington.

I worked with Patricia at a publishing company and came to know her personally outside of the office. Her extensive knowledge of the English language, impressive educational record, and strong interpersonal skills make her an excellent reading and writing tutor. Under her guidance even the most timid student will improve his or her ability to read and comprehend English composition while gaining the confidence necessary to express ideas on paper.

I have just been accepted to Centenary College for my MBA. Because I am an ESL student, the classes were so difficult for me; I thought it might be impossible to continue. In the first week I took classes from 3 different tutors. Ones who charged me less did not even help me to write a single sentence, others told me they only would proofread what I write, and the last one just felt that he was not going to get me to level I needed to meet my projects on time.
With Patricia, I received a just the right combination of everything that I needed:She boosted my confidence. She is very concerned and conscious of my deadlines. At every session we talk about what my assignments are, what I am working on, and she helps me to define and develop ideas. She also makes sure that I check punctuation and grammar and not just rely on the computer to do it.
She has a wide range of knowledge and is great in helping me with essays for subjects like marketing, management, and leadership. Almost every week I have assignments and she is there for me.
I would highly recommend her to everyone since I am absolutely delighted with her.
Sincerely,
T. Jikia

Question and answer
Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A. The most important thing is to know exactly what results you are looking for and to match these goals with the experience and goals of the provider. As well, don't let price rule your decision. The more qualified the professional, the more you will be charged for his/her time.
Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?
A. I have more than 10 years of experience in educational publishing as well as a number of years as a substitute teacher for K-12 and 5 years of university teaching. Few tutors have such a varied yet relevant range of experience. I have a concrete idea of the state of the educational system these days and know first hand the median range of skills students possess when they graduate from high school. This enables me to adjust my lesson plans not only to the needs of the individual, but also to their future requirements.
Q. What do you like most about your job?
A. I love assisting writers in developing their skills and their voice. This is not just about technical skills, but building a personal connection to their abilities and opening up their future opportunities by enabling them to communicate ably and accurately. There is no better feeling than seeing a budding author or business person mature into his/her own confidence and authority.
Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A. I am often asked how patient I am. That is a curious question since an educator should have the patience born of enthusiasm to do a good job. If the the student already knows or understands something, he would not need me. I expect to work as steadily and consistently as possible in order not to cause or add to any discomfort or resistance in the learner.
Q. What do you wish customers knew about you or your profession?
A. Tutoring is not about "beating" the SAT or other standardized tests or simply "editing" the person's work. It should be about creating an individualized plan geared to the needs of each student and the requirements and goals of each person's educational level. Clients need to be able to meet the challenges of the actual classroom or work environment, and learn to actively read and write with authority and interest.
