I prefer that you have your own guitar, though there are some exceptions if needed. Call me.
The guitar may be steel string acoustic guitar, classical guitar, or electric guitar.
I have been playing guitar for more than 20 years and being a guitar instructor is my full-time job.
I guarantee you will be amazed at what you will achieve! It will not be difficult. In fact, it will be fun.
It doesn't cost anything to contact me and find out more.
I teach guitar lessons with a method that is more geared towards fun and being able to socialize with music than with theory (at least in the beginning). I find that most of my students appreciate this more than having to go through entire guitar lessons devoted to theory. I have taught students as young as 7 years old and the idea is to keep them interested and vested in completing the current lesson and exploring on their own. Once the music bug has bitten and there is an interest that is driving the student to soak up anything and everything that is guitar related, then a traditional teaching program can be put in place to achieve whatever goals you desire.

A. Aside from the technical ability to play guitar, one should know about the guitar instructor's ability to convey ideas and concepts of music at many different levels of vocabulary. The same method of teaching that works for an adult will not work for a youth, and a method that is geared towards a youth or teen will most likely not be appreciated by an adult. An entertaining use of similes and metaphors must be used in both cases appropriately.
A. I find that if you enjoy the experience of learning guitar the process is a smooth transition from being a complete novice to a beginner to an advanced beginner to intermediate player and onward. I work toward making the lessons an enjoyable exchange of ideas and a conversation that dwells on music through guitar. Communication between the student and the instructor is key.
A. I like it most when a lightbulb goes on in the student's eyes. They "get it" and can effectively communicate back to me the ideas presented previously. When the student and I have matured together in our student/teacher relationship so that we can progress at a speed that is enjoyable as well as result driven.
A. Q: How long will it take before I am able to play guitar?
A: The student will be playing guitar within the first lesson. The rate of progress is determined by the amount of dedication to the instrument, which is shown by the amout of practice each week between guitar lessons.
A. Besides regular private guitar lessons that I started when I was young, I took piano lessons as a regular part of my high school curriculum and this gave me a high degree of knowledge with music theory. I have also participated in a number of special workshops with guitar professionals that have reached nationwide notoriety. This includes a week long intensive at the National Guitar Workshop, a blues intensive with Ernie Hawkins, and a bluegrass workshop with Jack Lawerence and another bluegrass workshop with Orrin Star. In addition, I have attended the 2009 IBMA Business Conference in Nashville,TN.
