Introduction: I am honest, reliable and one of the few CPDT-KA trainers in NJ. I have a passion for excellence. I get to help dog owners write their own story with their dog and help it have a happy ending. Dogs are my passion. I train them, write about them and even do portraits of them. 0 friends 1 review Dawn W. Hawthorne, NJ 6/19/2014 About one month ago Teddy and I met a wonderful, passionate and knowledgeable dog trainer. Her name is Dorice Stancher owner of Canines Can Do. Her style of training is strictly positive reinforcement which in my opinion is the only way to train! Teddy responded to Dorice right away and he was so happy with his teacher. He passed his puppy star class and is now enrolled in the canines can do class with Dorice. Teddy it's also looking forward to train as a therapy dog. If it wasn't for her commitment and love of dogs this wouldn't be possible. Teddy and I are so lucky to have found Dorice Stancher. Look no further for a trainer Dorice is dedicated to her profession and is by far the best!

I have a puppy Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and searching for a positive reinforcement therapy dog trainer and came across Canines Can Do telephone number and called, left message...few minutes later...a woman name Dorice Stancher called back and amazingly spend quality time with me on the phone ( about half an hour-Wow! ) explaining everything about what I need to know and all my choices, places, hours, facilities and many more topics that she cover on our conversation that made me feel so comfortable and trusting her with my beloved pups and not to mention her ability of making me feel at home without any pressure sale or commitment of agreement, simply leave the decision to myself... I'm convinced already and I'm sure my puppy will love her ways and will defenitely arrange an appointment with her.

Dorice is a woman filled with patience and love -- for animals, AND people. If you want a person to show you how to communicate with your pet without pain and guilt, she's the one for you. An amazing trainer and an even more amazing human being.

I would highly recommended Dorice to anyone looking to train their dogs from basic obedience to more advanced training.She only uses positive techniques and behavioral supports and is very patient and encouraging.My little dog was timid and fearful around other dogs before taking her class. She is now much more confident and even became certified as a therapy dog.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
The best trainers will take the CPDT-KA test to verify their expertise and experience. We are required to stay current and increase our knowledge of training and behavior. I have advanced training with Dr. Ian Dunbar, renowned international judge, Victoria Stillwell, Sue Goldberg, Pedigree Breeder of the Year (10 years in a row) Sylvia Hamilton, and many others including texts by Pat Miller, Jean Donaldson, and others.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I help to solve puppy problems including jumping, mouthing/biting and housebreaking. I also teach advanced obedience skills to puppies and adults so they can qualify for the AKC STAR Puppy, Canine Good Citizen (CGC) and Community Canine (CGCA) recognition. I have certified many of my students and their dogs for Therapy Work and have a 100% success rate. I do not encourage any dog to walk off leash in public as it is against local laws and according to the AKC is not a part of responsible dog ownership. As a member of the Ridgewood Responsible Dog Owner's Committee I am an advocate of training responsibly.
Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
A recent owner came to me with her dog that did not listen to her and refused to lie down. We worked together both privately and in group lessons. I recently certified her for therapy work and she joined me on her very first visit. He made everyone so happy and was the perfect therapy dog.
