Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. If you're looking for a performer who can appeal to a wide range and work in almost any setting, look for a nationally known storyteller. If you want to improve your message, whether it's online, in print or you're delivering it live, the narrative format is the most powerful.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. Watch out for article spinners or folks who call themselves writers or tellers but lack a portfolio or appearances. Remember, one size does not fit all when it comes to writers or spoken word performances. Take the time to interview and speak with your creative artists. Also remember, just because someone is creative does not make it OK to have poor business practices.

Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?

A. If you are looking for written content, ask to see samples. If you are looking to book a performance ask for a CD and a list of venues they've performed at. If you are looking for a coach, take the time to speak with them and make sure you are comfortable with their approach and style.
