Question and answer

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Do ensure that you find a dog trainer who uses modern Positive Reinforcement methods.

Many trainers still use antiquated 'dominance' approaches, which is unfortunately based on a decades old misunderstanding of dog/wolf behavior. The use of shock collars can also lead to highly undesirable behaviors.

The Association of Pet Dog Trainers (www.apdt.com) has some excellent resources on finding a good trainer, and acceptable training methods.

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. We offer a science-based modern approach to dog training, utilizing the best in Positive Reinforcement techniques to ensure a happy, well trained pet.

On top of this, we structure a training plan specifically for you, involving all of the family, with an easy-to-follow manageable schedule that works best for you all.

We recognize the pressures of work and family life, and will ensure that our solutions are both beneficial and achievable.

Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A. Isn't 'Positive Reinforcement' (using food lures) bribery?

No! Properly done, food treats are phased out quickly over time. The key is to build a positive emotional response, rather than a food-as-currency transaction.

Q. If you have a complicated pricing system for your service, please give all the details here.

A. Pricing:

Initial consultations generally last between 1.5 and 2 hours, and are $100.

Followup consultations last between 1 and 1.5 hours, and are $75 each.

Blocks of 4 consultations are $250 if scheduled together in advance. On the day of the initial consult (or prior), 3 more future visits can be scheduled which will then qualify for the block discount (again for a total of $250).
