FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
We stay in touch with the latest building products by attending courses offered by manufacturers such as Anderson Windows, Azek trim boards, Hardie Board trim boards, and taking courses on Flood and wind management by FEMA. This spring we attended a course given by FEMA for contractors, so they can help their customers deal with what may seem as insurmountable obstacles by dealing with Government Agencies.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
My family was involved in a family business of flipping homes, my brother, my dad and me. My brother was the foreman, with the old man being the admiral, while I was working during the day and going to Mercer community night college to get my computer tech certification. I noticed a funny thing happen when I did carpentry, while I did any other job, I would notice that I would always look at the clock through out the day, but when I did construction time just flew by. When you sat in an office a whole eternity would pass by between 12 pm and 2.15 pm, and you still had 3 hours till you went home. When I did carpentry it was like BAM lunch, a bit more work and BAM it was time to go home. I discovered that I had a real passion for the work, and work felt like when I was a kid playing with LEGOS. My brother went off to start another business and I was left being the foreman, and somewhere there I decided that I wanted to do this full-time. I still feel like that about my work, off course there is a lot more responsibility and pressure now, but that initial excitement for the work I still possess.
