  • Still Looking for new work based on a commission system. It seems as if the work is out there, since I keep getting work / quote request. I really wouldn't mind giving a little % to the person that brings in the work, but the thing is.... you've got to get the work, not just the lead. – May 14, 2012 at 3:05 pm

Question and answer

Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.

A. The most common request I receive is to revise a plan for contractors so they can present the proposed work to the township for a permit.

Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?

A. I've been doing this type of work basically since 1981.
It really is a combination creating an "As Built" of an existing project, or "Reverse Engineering" meaning I can dissect B.I.M. projects to a simple floor plan for
Electrical layouts, Fire Evacuation plans or other types of Construction Layouts.

Q. Tell us about a recent job you did that you are particularly proud of.

A. Most recently I revised a "Pencil Sketch" done by a home owner to a "CAD" layout, (refer to my photo examples).

Q. Do you do any sort of continuing education to stay up on the latest developments in your field?

A. I'm always "On-Line" learning new "Tips &Tricks" via Cadalyst Magazine and I'm involved with Autodesk learning new programs for Digital Reproduction.

Q. What are the latest developments in your field? Are there any exciting things coming in the next few years or decade that will change your line of business?

A. Even though I usually get involved with
"Reverse Engineering" to create "Simple Floor Plans" the biggest thing going now is B.I.M. or
"Building Information Modeling".
By using B.I.M. applications and software most construction problems are tackled prior to the 1st shovel hitting the ground.

Q. If you have a complicated pricing system for your service, please give all the details here.

A. Pricing varies from project to project.
For example:
Two homes that are basically the same may price out different due to building permit restrictions from town to town.
